Revamp Coming Soon

Let's be honest here, this blog hasn't gotten that much love. I originally planned to use it to post up comic pages, but due to not being able to archive it properly that won't be possible.

So, instead I decided this would serve as an "official blog", where I'd be using this as a sort of news site, but to be honest, there really isn't much that can be considered "news" without having spoilers, and this whole draft system isn't really that huge that it should become the main focus of the blog.

This blog will not die. It just needs to find a purpose (much like some of the characters of Gesen who have not been introduced.) All that "drafts" stuff will be merged into one page (because it really isn't that important).
I need to get some proper character pages and make this more of a database, almost a wiki, as it were.

Hiatus is Overrrrrrrr!!

After 2 weeks of no progress, Chapter 3 begins tomorrow with the first two pages (as well as the chapter title) released on Drunkduck.

This hiatus gave me the much needed time to patch up Chapter 3 and Chapter 2 (for the MangaBullet version).
I guess with Chapter 3 starting, I'll have to make a characters page soon...

DeviantArt Delayed, DrunkDuck Hiatus

In just over a month we are on hiatus again.
Basically the holidays are coming up... and before the holidays coursework has to be handed in. and for that to happen I need to take some time off Gesen. This hiatus will be over in around 2 weeks, hopefully that should be plenty of time for me to finish chapter 3 and start on 4. Hopefully.

In the next Drunkduck update I will announce the hiatus over there and hopefully have a sort of preview for Chapter 3 (I'm not making any promises.)
 Unfortunately this hiatus means that I'll have to push back the DeviantArt launch, also, but it's for the better.

Despite all this, updates on MangaBullet updates will continue as usual, mondays and fridays.

MangaBullet Debut Tomorrow!

Tomorrow marks the first update for Gesen on a brand new site; MangaBullet.com!
Tomorrow's update will consist of a title page, and the first 5 Pages of Chapter 1: Departure. After that, updates will most likely be twice a week on Mondays and Fridays, meaning that on Friday Chapter 1 Page 6 will also be uploaded!

Contrary to something that has become almost a tradition, my username is NOT related to anything from the Gesen universe or any other of my characters. Instead, I decided to take the name of the very first Zone in Sonic CD, Palmtree Panic.

Sorry, DeviantArt users. I'll be uploading pages from next week. I'll update my journal entry within a couple of days with more info regarding uploading schedule and stuff. (

And of course, there's always drunkduck, which will be entering chapter 3 next week.

Outlines are the Future

Hey all, guess this would be the first proper post which isn't me just uploading new pages.

If anyone's been reading this on Drunkduck where the story is further ahead then anywhere else, you may have noticed that from the second half of chapter 2 (from Page 8 onwards I decided to alter the art style, giving (too) much emphasis on the cel-shading, and abandoning outlines, Samurai Jack-style, however this didn't work out so well for me. To be completely honest, the first couple of pages (8-11) the cel-shading is over-the-top, and so I tried toning it down for the remainder of Chapter 2. But I'm sick of not using outlines. So, from Chapter 3 onwards you can expect to see characters having outlines again.

I think that the best style I've done so far has to be in the unreleased Chapter 21 of Draft 2/Draft 3 in which I did the inking and colouring on Photoshop (Elements 8, in case anyone was wondering). I found it gave me smoother looking pages, I could still have a cel-shaded sort of look and best of all, the Eyedropper tool, something not featured in Manga Studio unfortunately. It's likely that post-Chapter 3 I will return to a painting-style, with cel-shading. If not the characters, definitely the backgrounds.

Chapter 2 Page 11

Probably one of chapter 2's worst looking pages. For some reason I felt compelled to have 2 layers of shading regardless of anything else. Now I would just edit these, but if I edited everything I wasn't happy with I'd be editing everything, and I really want to get into the story. Plus it's supposedly good to look back and see how you were at the time of drawing this.

By no means is this perfect, however it's a whole lot better than the page above it. It's rather ironic, as this was drawn 5 months earlier. If you look on Canu's right elbow you see 2 layer cel-shading done correctly, rather than the horrible mess I made on Gesen's face.

If I seem really critical or harsh about my own work, I'd suggest getting used to it. I can't look at my work without wanting to be better than I am. I'm all for self-improvement... perhaps a bit too much...

I haven't really added any new content on here in a few days, so I decided to upload 2 pages in one go. I'm still trying to work out if I can archive the pages, if I can't this may end up as more of an official info site (or a "blog").
Anyhow here's Chapter 1 Pages 2 and 3.

Welcome to the Gesen Blog!!

Hi! And welcome to this blog/webcomic. The main focus of this blog will be archiving my webcomic Gesen, however I will be putting things other than Gesen on here. Gesen is a fantasy/adventure/romance/action/comedy  manga comic which I write and draw.
